Professional Experience
Catherine received a BA Music Class One and MA Musicology with Distinction from the University of Exeter before beginning her career as a peripatetic woodwind teacher for Hampshire Music Service and Portsmouth Music Service. After studying for a PGCE in Key Stage 2/3 Music at the University of Roehampton, Catherine went on to work in a variety of teaching and leadership roles for Portsmouth Music Service until 2022.
Catherine provided curriculum teaching, whole-class ensemble teaching, instrumental teaching and workshops in primary schools, secondary schools and Alternative Provision, as well as delivering CPD at regional and national conferences, developing and leading professional networks, training School Centred Initial Teacher Training students, composing songs for children, and managing large-scale performance events.
In recent years Catherine has undertaken various freelance roles including leading on the refresh of the vocal and instrumental curriculum A Common Approach for Music Mark, delivering CPD to music services and hubs, and providing a range of operational support to other music education organisations.
